Praying with Big Magic: Enchantment
God of Spirit and Delight
God of Glimpses and Goosebumps
God of insights and sparks so dramatic even our hair stands on end.
You call us with the rushing energy of the prairie wind
and the tender sweetness of the honey bee’s flight
to the creative work seeded within.
But we are busy, buzzing with lists-to-do
and hours to work and ladders to climb
meetings to zoom and calls to make,
sometimes while our car is in drive
or the baby is crying or the kettle is calling us to tea
but we just don’t have time.
Our tasking is multi, our schedules are full, our coffee gets cold
and moments to listen are hard to carve out.
And yet, You paint fields with greens and golds,
woven through with precious streams and purple flowers
just begging us to stop, look and take it all in.
You are both the exquisite lighting bug and powerful bolt,
the burning bush and the midnight star,
drawing our eyes to the signs within and about,
waving us down with the Peacock’s bold feathers,
brilliant pink sunsets and the smiles of friends
demanding we stop, look and open our eyes to the fullness of life.
But we are checking our phones and filling our carts
all while binge watching Netflix and ordering lunch.
Half-watching, Half-present and
perhaps to afraid to be more than Half-hearted.
And Yet,
You whipper new hopes
how about
You seed new hopes
Enchant us, Loving God of Goosebumps and passion.
Enchant us beyond our hesitations and distractions.
Until at long last we emerge with the gift of something new,
Deeply loved, empowered to co-create
and inspired to offer this treasure that we make.
May it be so.
Amen.
